'State Bikes prepared a bike that fits what I'm doing [for this project], but will also be useful on a daily basis when I get home. Basically, I decided to pick a cyclocross race bike, which is essentially an offroad road bike with knobby tires, with disc brakes. The stopping power is more dependable — for the extra 100 pounds of weight I'm carrying right now. Plus, the geometry puts me in position so I can ride for 45 days straight and still be comfortable.'
