I want to write a good review here, as a good solid bike deserves such. The handling is precise, the paint scheme is beautiful and above all, if you choose your correct frame size, the bike feels like it’s an extension of yourself. I’m 5’11 I got a size 55 and once I got my saddle to the right position & height, everything feels completely perfect. If you’re looking to get a solid fixed gear without busting the bank then you’ve found the place. State bicycle co. has got you covered. Flip that hub to the fixed gear side and your ready to roll. This is my 2nd state bike and who knows probably not my last. Riding fixed gear with love from Southern California! 🚴🏼🚴‍♂️

Solid Ride

So first off the bike came very well packed. Lots or protection for the frame and parts. No damage of any kind upon opening everything up. The paint job is flawless! It’s a lot of the reason I chose this model. The transition of the colors are seamless and the clear coat really shines. The wheels are very shiny and they were straight and true right out of the box. Took me about 40 minutes to set it up, but I was really looking at everything and cleaning as I went a long. First impressions riding is that it’s a really solid bike. A few pops and creaks from the wheels for maybe the first mile as they set in. Then it was quiet and fast! My only slight complaint is the tires and pedals are cheap, but I think that’s to be expected as everyone changes them to their own liking. I am really happy I made the purchase and I absolutely love the bike. Well worth it!

It's a great ride.

I love the bike so far. I have had it for two weeks now. It feels solid. The geometry is nice. Turning is quick. It feels nice. I ordered on line. It came scratch free and with all of the pieces. It looks great. I had a problem with the web form when ordering. It would not allow me to make the correct handlebar selection. I called the customer service number however and an actual human answered the phone and was happy and able to correct the order before it shipped. When the bike bike arrived I realized that the lock that I ordered was not been shipped. I called and they sorted that out immediately as well. No hoops to jump through. I received it a few days later. All in all an excellent product and great service. I will likely get a couple more bikes from them.

Rides Like A Dream!

I purchased the Van Damme a few months ago. I finally put it together the other day after purchasing some upgrades (bars, tires, seat, stem, pedals, saddlebag, brake levers). I contacted State after realizing my seat post was missing a part. They profusely apologized and shipped out a replacement within a day. I purchased this bicycle to rediscover an old love/hobby of mine as a kid/teenager. The folks over at State Bicycle Co. have given me everything I want and more out of the Van Damme after making a few tweaks. 5/5 stars for customer service and bang for your buck on this 4130 bicycle. Rides like a dream!

Simply Awesome.

My SE Lager was stolen on Christmas day and I've decided to treat myself to a new bike several days later -- the Van Damme. Luckily, there was free shipping during that time! I'm happy with my purchase, it runs smooth and the chromoly material makes it much sturdier and lighter than my previous bike. I highly recommend this affordable bike!

Couldn’t be happier! A+

This is my second State bicycle (#1- Marigold a few years ago). Needed an alternate bike for more work transit and after some obligatory research, State 4130 is still the best buy in its class for a superior mid-level single/fixed bicycle.

So glad I didn’t hesitate- the ‘Van Damme’ is absolutely amazing! This is a super sturdy but light and smooth ride. Amazing performance and handling (fixed). Really simple and responsive. Love it just as much, if not more than my first! The only alterations I’ve made are personal preference: iso ergonomic seat rather than standard (male comfort for training and tours 50mi.), and Bonmixc pedals (wider/thinner better make). Oh, and the color scheme is very attractive and painted flawlessly.

My State bicycles are so impressive that both my wife and brother-in law are getting their own too (‘Perplexing Purple’ and ‘Matte Black’, respectively)! If I ever need another, or maybe if a nice ‘Undefeated’ comes up, I’ll definitely buy from State Bicycle Co. again. A+

I've owned several bicycles over the years and this is the Best One Yet!

I've only been on it three times so far, due to other commitments, ride is smooth quiet and very enjoyable. After owning several bicycles over the years, I must say that this one is made exceptionally well and has to be one of the very best that I've ever own or taken a ride on. Thanks for a great ride.

Absolute Beast

This bike is amazing. Great handling and intense speeds ending up putting a smile on my face every time I hop on it.

It was easy to assemble and was packaged in a sleek and highly protective box.

I’ve been blown away by the overall quality, aesthetics and handling of this beast. SBC has knocked this one out of the park. I highly recommend the 4130 line and I am confident that IF I ever need another bike, it’ll be a SBC.

Stylish Ride

While it took a couple of months to arrive (understandable given the increased demand for bikes during pandemic), I'm very happy with my bike. Furthermore, Seth from SBC was very transparent and quick to reply to my email inquiries during the delay.

The bike arrived in near-perfect shape (with only a tiny paint imperfection, but thankfully in a spot that isn't visible). I took it for professional assembly at my local bike shop. The bike guy did remark that he thought the internal brake cable routing should have been pre-installed at the factory, but other than that, the assembly went smoothly.

Above all, the bike is beautiful. The paint job is stunning and the retro-inspired racing stripes really complete the look. I'm not a high-end bike expert, so I'm thus far satisfied with the quality of the components. My more knowledgeable bike friend thinks the parts could be slightly better, but I'm sure it's a trade-off with the price point.

I did have one issue with the bike - the rear brake cable frayed after only a couple of days, but thankfully my local bike repair shop took care of the issue for me. I contacted SBC and they offered to reimburse me for the repair, but it wasn't worth the hassle, so I instead just gave my bike guy a bottle of wine as thanks.

Besides its stylish looks, the bike rides very smoothly and is a pretty zippy ride. It's lightweight and easy to pick up and bring inside.

I opted to upgrade to black resin pedals, which may not have been necessary in the end. Of note, the stock metal pedals also shipped with the bike, so I do have the option of going back to the originals if I want. I also opted to remove the reflectors to clean up the look of the bike, given that I have lights for night riding.

If you're not sure about sizing, for comparison I'm 5'9 with about a 31" inseam and the 55 sizing is perfect.

The 4130 Steel Line earned its namesake from the double-butted 4130-grade chromoly steel used on the frame and fork that maximizes strength without making compromises on weight. Internal cable routing, seat stay rack mounts, water bottle cage mounts, a flip-flop hub, and integrated chain tensioners provide versatility while maintaining the clean aesthetic State Bicycle Co. is known for. Drilled high-flange hubs, an open faceplate stem, and the CNC’d seat post clamp not only look great but also help to shave some additional weight.

The latest 4130 Steel Line models feature a subtle but stylish ‘STATE’ logo on the down tube and an updated ‘SBC’ head tube logo. Limited production runs, designer color ways not seen anywhere else, and the ability to customize your bike by selecting your handlebar style and wheel set all combine to make sure you have a bike as unique as you are.
