Great commuter

I've been riding this bike for six months now, no complaints. I replaced the bars with drop bars. I've gotten lots of compliments. Love the frame and build!

Solid bike, but have a spoke wrench handy.

My overall customer service experience was fabulous, my order was processed promptly, shipped quickly, and arrived well-packed and undamaged. The bike is generally solid, however be aware that the frame is not what's pictured on the website. It does not have a sloping top tube, but rather a traditional straight tube, and it does not have the mounted bottle opener (which is fine since that seemed silly anyway) - instead there are traditional water bottle mounts. You will definitely need to have experience truing wheels as the rear was severely out-of-round. The front was also out-of-true, but not as badly as the rear. The front also needed some bearing adjustment as they were very tight as shipped. You'll need some wheel maintenance experience, or invest in the cost of having your LBS thoroughly check them. Also, the supplied pedals are horrid with nearly frozen bearings (they are not serviceable). I upgraded to a pair of Shimano PD-M324 and they are a tremendous improvement. Finally, I found the supplied 100mm stem a bit short for the large size 58cm frame and swapped it out for a Cinelli 1A in 120mm length. This required a shim for the 26.4mm bar mount. This purely a personal fit preference and not a knock on the bike.

All-in-all a solid bike with a really nice matte finish that will require some expert assembly and perhaps an upgrade of a component or two.

Pretty solid city bike, but have a spoke wrench handy.

My new single speed Elliston arrived a couple of days ago and so far I'm very happy with the purchase for a short distance commute and errand bike. Also, the online ordering experience was stellar, and everything arrived packed really well and undamaged.

Now to the bike -- the frame is not what's pictured on the website. It has a straight top tube, not the slight sloping tube that's shown, and the beer bottle opener has been replaced with traditional bottle cage mounts (which is better really; the beer opener seemed silly to me and others have said it was ill-placed). Otherwise, the frame is solid. Also, a rear rack was included which was a nice surprise.

The major problem were the wheels that were massively out of round and probably dangerous without inspection and repair. Fortunately I'm an experienced bike builder and I was able to get them into a safe condition, but for the average Joe, buying this bike requires investing in a pro mechanic to make the wheels safe. Also, the pedals shipped are horrid. The bearings were nearly ceased and they are not serviceable. I have a pair of Shimano PD-M324s on the way from Amazon to replace the throwaway stock pedal. Otherwise, everything is pretty solid -- I upgraded the saddle to a Brooks B17 in a honey color which works really well with the matte black frame color, but the shipped saddle is really quite nice.

This is a 4+ star bike if I didn't have to spend an hour repairing the wheels and buying pedals that worked.

solid bike for the money

Been riding this for the last couple months, get lots of compliments so thats nice. the matte look is pretty sweet. The twist shifter is not my favorite thing, so maybe plan to replace that, but other than that I'm pretty happy with it.

Overall pretty good bike for the price

I'm really enjoying this bike after 1 month of use. I love the look and the simplicity of the design and get compliments all the time. I'm digging the coaster brakes - feels like being a kid again. The single speed works just fine for riding around in my very flat city and I'm not missing the extra gears at all. Some pieces of the bike feel a bit flimsy, especially the chain guard. The fenders are a bit rickety when going over bumps and don't sit totally straight over the wheels. The seat and handlebar grips are not very soft, so it gets a bit uncomfortable on rides longer than 30 mins. Also, fun idea with the bottle opener on the frame, but it's placed too low to actually use it - can't fit a bottle under it. But for the price, it's a generally solid bike and perfect for my day to day short trips in the city.

Great bike, okay build

Love the new bike--retro cool. But I was a little disappointed with the build quality. Both wheels needed to be trued, and the shifting was very finicky.
