Black Label 55cm

Awesome bike. Simple build. Packaged nicely. Fast bike. Good quality except for the water bottle cage I ordered was damaged. State quickly sent me another one free of charge. Awesome customer service. Last but minor pet peeve: the freewheel I ordered with the build is garbage, uneven freespin and sloppy cage interference. Other than that, super satisfied.

Awesome Bike!!

This bike is amazing, it is super light and sturdy. It is very responsive and the matte black looks very aggressive around the city!!

Good first bike

Loved the frame and look of bike. As I unboxed it though I saw many scratches which didn’t go good with the aesthetic. Changed the handle bars to the drop bars. It looks better with the drop bars. Overall good but shipping needs to be worked on

Overall, I do love the bike

I totally agree with and believe the criticisms made about how shoddy certain elements of SBC's process is. Mine came with several wrong or missing parts. Fortunately, I ordered through my LBS and they handled the customer service so kudos to them. The guy at the shop was like, yeah State always f---s up their shipments, it's unreal.

That said, this was my first time buying a fully constructed fixed bike, after 15 years of riding Frankentracks. And? I love it, I can't lie. I genuinely love this bike, I've put more than a thousand miles on it riding daily through downtown DC in a track set-up. I've had several moments of epiphany in the middle of a ride when I thought, damn I love this bike. The tires and chain are garbage and barely lasted a month of city riding, but that was an unsurprising swapout. But I've taken this thing up 8 mile hard uphills, dodging traffic, potholes, glass, and other urban 'flair', and then, back down. Frame always feels stiff and solid, whether twisting it back and forth going uphill, or all the way back of the saddle, grinding that chain backwards and gripping the handlebars for dear life plummeting downhill. I can't ride no brakes unless I have 100% confidence that every piece is solid, and since my first ride, I've had no hesitation with this thing and have had no run-ins. I can always immediately jerk a hard cut out of danger, I can bust into an immediate sprint, I can stomp on the cranks, I've put this thing through every possible scenario, and it's always right there, solid, dependable, I don't have to worry about the bike, I can focus on the road.

For the price, the 6061 BL gets my vote as a very good option for someone who is newish to fixed riding and wants a quality horse to learn on. It's also good, in my case at least, for a 20+yr track-style veteran who appreciated the yesteryear of building up and swapping out but now wants a grab-and-go that is consistently an asset rather than a liability.

STRONG recommendation that you order it through a bike shop, even better if an authorized dealer, and have them assemble it. Let them deal with the f-ups that will inevitably arise, and shop guys (i.e. one that told me this) love these assemble jobs because it's revenue for an easy job. Get the piece of mind of a quality build-up and support an important local retail element (commandment: unless you're destitute, *always* tip your mechanic, and for best results, do it before the work rather than after).

But my parting impression is that this is a good bike and I'm glad I have the one I have, and in 15 minutes I will be out there making love to the streets again.

My specs: 5'9, 160lbs, 52yo, riding 55cm and the size is right on
Standing bet: I will pay $20 for the privilege of riding with anyone in DC on a fixed that beats me on my route from RFK Stadium to Chevy Chase, MD. I don't even want $ if I win, but I'll be happy to pay up if I lose.

Been a courier since 2015, this bike has been my workhorse since 2020. Fast teardrop shape aero downtube and sharp angles from track bike geometry for super tight handling, useful for filtering heavy traffic. We ride an average of 150 miles a week, rain, shine, and snow, in 100F and 0F. I estimate I've rode about 15,000 miles or so on this bike and still going. It's a good bike, I built mine from frameset, limited edition too.

Have been a fan of State Bicycle Co for a few years and finally picked up the Black Label V2. It looks absolutely amazing and can not wait to explore the area!

Beautiful bike. It does require a bit more assembly than some other online brands, but the end result is a high quality, striking and fast bicycle. Highly recommended. The shipping container was beaten to death, but the bike survived and looks great.

Amazing bike

I’ve had the 6061 black label for 2 weeks now, and I’m absolutely loving it. I have close to 300 miles on it. It’s super quick, aggressive, very stiff, and accelerates immediately as you put the power down. This thing also corners like it’s on rails! I set it up with tubeless tires and it’s been plenty comfortable for longer rides around 50 miles or so. I don’t run it fixed and never plan to, so I bought the freewheel with the bike. I did have to change the stock saddle, but overall I’m super stoked with the bike.

Excellent frame and geometry for city surfing and long distance rides(75km +) since I do a lot of uphill in my town.

Wonderful

This has been my go to bicycle. I commute only 10 miles a day but I love getting up every morning and riding this guy. I will recommend State to anyone who asks.
