Replace the shifter, then Hakuna Matata

Like others, I was having some trouble with the shifter being wobbly and slipping around the middle gears. Talked to my LBS, and they replaced the Sunrun shifter with a Shimano and it cleared right up. Wanted to include that bit of info for anyone else having this problem, but otherwise I am LOVING this bike. It's pretty, it's nimble, it feels quick, and it doesn't take anything too seriously. Which, as it turns out, is exactly what I wanted.

Great everyday bike at a great price

Just got back from my first long distance and I think this one's a keeper. The bike is nimble and fast, improving my normal trail speed by 2mph. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to buy a bike at this price, but with these notes: The bike sizing chart might need some adjustments. I'm 69" tall with a 29" inseam. I purchase the 55cm, but would probably be better on a 52cm. Not a HUGE deal, I'm probably just on the cusp of either size, but based on my overall height, the size chart recommends a 55cm. The down-tube shifter takes some getting used to, and is a bit touchy, but you should figure it out within 30 minutes of riding. Looking forward to putting many more miles on it!

Love my new bike

I love my new bike - I got the Glacier NP 8 speed road bike. The frame is very light and easy to carry in and out of my work over my shoulder, even though it isn't marketed as an ultralight bike so it's perfect for commuting. It rides very nicely, sturdy and smooth.

Perfect package at a great price.

The bike is super clean and a joy to ride. For the price, I think I’ll be taking more leaps of faith with new State products. The wheels needed a lot of work, but it happens.

Shifts perfectly, Sunrace setup works great!

Bike was easy to build. Allen keys 4, 5, and 6 plus some lubricant for the brake cables/housing is all you need. Wheels were true out the box, despite what other previous reviews have eluded to. The only things I swapped (for personal preference and from my experience) was the saddle to a Fizik Aliante Evo and the tires to gatorskin for flat prevention but kept the same size 700x28c.

To sum up here, this is like a lighter core line bike with gear options to choose from for various terrain or hills you may come across during your ride. Shifting is accurate with positive clicks from the down tube shifter. The wheels roll true/smooth. The brakes work well like Shimano brake calipers. Even the brake levers felt comfortable like Shimano STIs/brifter hoods.

So, who is this bike for? Anyone one who wants a classic looking bike for riding around town or even putting in miles with a local group ride. Hope this helps anyone considering one of these great road bikes, because State Bicycle really is a great brand of bike.

Loyal customer of State Bike

It is not the first State Bike that I bought. I bought 4130 Americana 8 speed, and The Azure Deluxe 3 speed in the past 12 months. They are very well made, of course. The only weak points are the shift. After I upgraded the shifters and the derailleurs, they are good to go. I think it is good investment for years to go.

Glacier!!

Love my new State bike! It rides so smooth and quick! Very light and comfortable bike. Beautiful color frame with the Glacier National Park edition. Couldn't be happier! My only complaint is that I dont have more time to ride it!

Great Looking Bike

I got my 4130 Road to replace a road bike I had to sell last year to pay off some medical debt. The bike looks fantastic. Derailleur and brakes worked well out of the box, and the finish on all of the parts was fantastic. The only issue I had was the wheels weren’t very true, but at this price point I kind of expect that to be honest.

Overall it’s a great looking bike, and I can’t wait for the weather to get nicer so I can start getting it out on the road!
