Updated and you can feel it!

Had a v1 Black Label taken out by a car crash and replaced it with this bike from insurance money. I have the Omnium Crank, FSA Compact Drop Bar, Brooks Cambium All-Weather Saddle, and Thickslick 25c's as upgrades, and also added some basic Tektro Drop Brake Levers and All-City Cable Housing Guides. For starters, love this bike absolutely. Its the favorite of my 4 bicycles, and my go-to commuter for work. You can actually feel the 1-1/2lbs weight difference from the v1, and the newer stock Arione style saddle is far better than the old standard. The geometry feels a little more relaxed, but every nuance of body movement is still translated through the bike making it more comfortable and still responsive. Using the 48/16 gear ratio is perfect for my commute, letting me keep a comfy 20mph flat speed but still able to climb steep hills without getting out of the saddle. I used the supplied Wide-Bar for my old v1, and the brakes/grips/bar all feel solid. Only things I would improve from stock are having drop brake lever upgrade options, more sizes of FSA drop bar (I went aftermarket with a 44cm), have the older black cable guides come as standard or at least offer them as a purchase option or the Jagwire Adhesive Clip mounts, and make the Thickslicks the standard tire. I rode for a long time on my v1 with the standard 23c's, and the Thickslicks make a massive difference. Overall, extremely satisfied and looking forward to thousands of miles on this beauty.

Black Label V2 in turquoise

Love how light this bike is and a cool look, great customer service when I needed to get the rear wheel replaced (axle stripped out of box), price point a bit high for some of the parts being on the entry level end (simple mods tho), and would ask them to be a bit more specific about parts (BB) - overall, would recommend to friends!

Absolutely love it

I’ve had a handful of used/hand me down bike in my day. Finally purchased my own as a intermediate cyclist and I’m very happy with my purchase. Quick and straightforward setup, parts all look and feel high quality. I am confident in my ride.

Love it

My first fixie, works perfectly so far. Really lightweight and fun to ride in the city.
I live in Montreal, it arrived in about a week, assembly took a day in my local bike shop
Kinda dissapointed that bullhorn handles weren't an option tho but I can live with that
10/10 would buy again.

Great foundation with room to customize

I honestly wanted a Specialized Langster again, but that line is done and everywhere is sold out, so State seemed like a good option...younger company, but more bang for the buck. I was looking more for a SS road bike than a fixie.

I got the Black Label v.2 with the wheelset upgraded to the Essor Bolt. Not everything on the bike is perfect, but it's perfect for the money. Seems like State kept the consumables/optional parts cheap, knowing it saves money and people will most likely swap them out anyways. But the bike is fine out of the box. Having said that, the frameset, cockpit, drivetrain and wheels are great! I love the bike...just wish it had two sets of bottle cage bosses and 2 more links in the chain to accommodate an 18 tooth cog (I ride a lot of hills).

And customer service is great, too.

Even Better

I've been a proud State rider for some years now and the Black Label was the last bike I owned. An accident caused me to lose her but I was more then happy to buy another one without hesitation. This version II is even more sexy then the first and is amazingly comfortable and responsive. The color is gorgeous and being a NYC Bike Messenger I couldn't turn down 'Pigeon' Grey. Thank you for such a beautiful beast.

Fast. Light. Solid. Beauty.

Pros: Best bike I rode on my life. Ultra responsive, lightweight and solid built. The finish has no flaws.
Few cons: too thin stock 23c tires, it deserves 25c at minimum (I use 28c Gatorskins); I didn't like the Vans grips, feels too rubbery; the saddle is poor quality.

The 6061 Black Label Series is the perfect tool for navigating the streets. Built on an agile and ultra-light, double-butted 6061 Aluminum frame with a tapered head tube and featuring an Essor USA full carbon fork, the Black Label Series is a stiff and responsive ride.

The Black Label Series complete builds are available in a wide range of colors, including ultra-limited single production-run colorways and are stacked deep with premier parts and components. The CNC’d crank set is lightweight but rigid, featuring a 144 BCD that allows for a wide variety of chainring options. A set of mid-profile wheels equipped with low-flange, sealed hubs are durable enough to take a beating on the city streets, but light enough for competition or endurance rides. With the Black Label Series, you have the option to choose either stylish, wide riser bars or compact drop bars that provide comfort and quick transitions between hand positions.
