 It's Springtime, and normally the State Bicycle Team's season would be in full swing. This year, the COVID-19 outbreak has put a pause on racing. Let's check in with the Team and see how some of our riders have been holding up over the last few weeks...

2/22/2020 - The State Bicycle Team rolled into our headquarters in Tempe, AZ to participate in our annual Phoenix to Tucson ride. Unfortunately, the weather had another plan. With flash floods the Phoenix to Tucson event got rained out. That didn't stop the team from getting some training in-town on Saturday, an epic 105+ mile ride on Sunday (fixed) followed by a legendary pizza-challenge.

Sammi Runnels (Squid Bikes) is a bad-ass. Plain and simple. She's done it all, from Red Hook Crit podiums on her fixed-gear, to becoming one of the most elite women in the world of cyclocross, and representing Team USA on a road bike, there isn't much she CAN'T do! Sammi's riding isn't all that grabs attention. Her supreme riding ability is matched by her keen eye for style. In Episode 11, Sammi Runnels reunites with her fellow Austinite, Samantha Wipff (State Bicycle Co.) in the ghost town of Jerome, AZ for a deep dive into adverse childhoods, bicycle sandwich delivery roots, professional DM sliding, and possibly the most unconventional way to secure an art school scholarship. They just might boldly convince you that Austin is the best city in this great country for women's cycling. We're not arguing.

The first look at our brand-new Undefeated Road Bike, an aluminum crit-killer, that can withstand the beatings of training, traveling, and commuting.

Another "season" of America's #1 fixed-gear climbing interview series, "Riding Fixed, Up Mountains, With Pros", is in the books. We are taking a look back at some of our most favorite moments that didn't make the cut. Building on the popularity of State Bicycle Co.'s on-bike interview series "Riding Fixed, Up Mountains, with Pros", State has launched a new series - " Freewheelin' " . The concept is simple - find our favorite entertainers, athletes, personalities, and genuinely awesome people and go ride together.  Episode 1 features Ben Sinclair, the creator and star of HBO's High Maintanence. The show centers around Ben's character "the guy", a weed delivery courrier in New York City (who just so happens to ride a State Bicycle Co. fixed gear) and his interactions with his clients. In this episode Ben and the State Bicycle Co. crew visit Mt. Humboldt, just north of Phoenix, where State is based and where Ben grew up. 

When it comes to cycling, there isn't much Christian Vande Velde hasn't accomplished. As a son of a cycling legend, CVDV had no problem filling those BIG shoes, first as an elite track cyclist, later being part of a Tour De France winning team and representing Team USA  in the Olympic Games. Christian has seen it all an has been part of the fabric of American cycling for over 4 decades, first through his family, then as a competitor at the highest levels, and now as an analyst on NBC.  In Episode 10, team rider Scott Piercefield travels to Greenville, SC to chat with CVDV about cycling, life, and his TV career.

We like to think of Eric Marcotte as "The People's Champ". For most cycling fans, his claim to fame is winning BOTH the US Pro National Road Race and the US Pro National Criterium while maintaining is full-time chiropractic practice - seeing dozens of clients each week. In Episode 9, we travel to Safford, AZ, home of the Arizona State Hill Climb Championship on Mount Graham that twists up more than 6,000 ft of elevation gain on what appears to be the wet dream of a civil engineer. Eric chats with State Bicycle Co. team newcomer, Chris Tolley, on unorthodox training methods, music, and nutrition.

Another race in the books, another Uber driver threatened to blast System of a Down. Scott here with a race update! The 2019 RedBull Last Stand happened much earlier than its late-season past, joining forces with Tulsa Tough to produce a venue and course I’ll never forget.

With back-to-back Road and Criterium National Championships under his belt, Justin is paving a new path for younger riders to now follow in his footsteps. In Episode 8, State Bicycle Team rider Josh Tyrrell (super Canadian) meets up with Justin on Mt. Baldy to talk about grass-roots cycling, fixed-gear bikes, sibling rivalries and representation in the sport. Watch and you'll find the riders have a surprise run-in by a heavy-hitter!

What happens when you take former pro cyclist Phil Gaimon, take away the brakes and the gear, find out in Phil goes Phixie! Phil learns pointers with team rider Scott Piercefield, rides an alley cat and a fixed gear crit.

Athlete, Addison Zawada gives us his run down on the epic, 100 Mile, gravel-grind known as Landrun 100, held each year in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

In Episode 7 we travel to Boulder, CO to meet up with Toms Skujins, the Tour de France polka dot jersey adorned King of the Mountains during his offseason. Though the red dot pattern is only correlated to the dance by name, along the climb through the small town of Ward we find out that the Potato Man of the Peloton can shake his hips as well as he dances on the pedals. We're fans for life.

Our Retailer Spotlight Series continues at the Cycle Learning Center on the campus of Boise State University. Open since 2002, the shop may be a partnership between Boise State's Campus Recreation and Parking and Transportation Department's, but it is their student employees and the guiding hand of their Coordinator that have turned them into a thriving hub for the cycling community in Boise, ID.
