Fun ride

I bought with the intention of using as a Sunday morning ride to coffee bike, for that it performs admirably. Lately I have been taking it out on some longer as well.

Bike draws a lot of attention with its timeless vintage look. I’ve actually been asked multiple times about it. For me, this bike is the ultimate city bike, that doubles as a roadie. It’s fun to ride.

Easy assembly too. (About 20 minutes with coffee and a bagel consumed during process)

Decent Bike for the Price

Got my 4130 and put her through the paces tonight. I’m a bicycle mechanic by trade so am pretty familiar with how these things work out of the box. A few things I’d like to address right off the bat...
1. The badge work leaves something to be desired as it’s not properly riveted on and pops off easily. MAJOR BUMMER!
2. There were a number of chips in the paint up by the head tube and around the seat clamp area. These things happen but it gives me a chance to scope the paint job, it’s pretty thin and I can tell it’ll be getting powder coated within the year most likely.
3. The seat tube down by the bottom bracket looks like it has a slight curvature to it. I’ll be checking for certain with a level tomorrow.

Aside from those few things the bike is really well put together and for the price is a great little pony to ride. She shifts smoothly, runs quiet and sprints up climbs like she was born for it. This is my second State Bicycle and I’d recommend them for entry level cyclists.

Amazing bike, even better deal for the $$$

This is my first road bike ever. Personally, I have learned so much about road bikes since receiving this bike (I grew up riding fixed gear bikes) The 8-speed set up is absolutely perfect for any fixie riders trying to learn the world of gears/road bikes. The Hunter Green paint is even more beautiful in person. I get compliments all all day when I commute on it around town. The steel frame is GANGSTER. I will say that the down tube shifter does take some practice. But, after your second or third ride on it, you will be slap shifting around corners with incredible speed. I could not be happier with my investment in this bike. I HIGHLY recommend this bike to anyone who askes my opinion.

Great Bike with Issues

Great looking bike that is fun to ride. The down tube shift is an adjustment to get used to. Sometimes the chain will slip back and forth between gears because the wire shifting wire gets loose. My front tube recently popped which sucks but I'm going to try and fix it. Overall, great bike, but it has its issues.

A solid $550 bike

The good: as advertised it's a solid serviceable bike at a good price point.

The no so good: the valve stems were bent on both tubes that shipped with the bike so the tubes were useless. The front wheel was not true out of the box. The deraileur is a little sticky across the middle cogs. I've played around with the tension a bit but I can't seem to get all 8 cogs dialed in just right. My sense is that State Bicycle Co. is better at fixies and single speeds than they are at geared bikes at the moment.

Get you where you're going and looks great too!

Do you sometimes run into hills or wind on your commute to school or work? Then get one of these suckers which has......GEARS! And brakes too! All in one convenient, good looking package. Steel is real, but it's still pretty light at 22lbs 10 oz for the 55c size frame. 44 tooth 1x chain ring up front and an 8 gear cassette out back. Perfect for a windy day or climbing the occasional hill. Get one of these bad boys and instantly become the coolest kid in town (results may vary).

4130 is incredible

I've waited a solid month to post this review. This bike is brilliant - it works well for daily commuting and is comfortable for long rides. I've ridden this daily to work and it handles all road conditions like a boss. It's super light and really responsive. I've also taken it on two 10 mile rides and didn't have any issues, it's comfortable for long rides. If I had one knock it's the paint scheme order - I have the Americana and the bottom is all white so I need to wipe it down regularly to keep it nice and shiny. The downtube shifter is easy to use, just be careful you don't reach too far and stick your fingers into your wheel. I would absolutely recommend this bike (and State in general) to anyone looking for a bike.

4130 Road hunter green

Bike overall is pretty good, though there are some small quality control issues, as well as areas that need to be tuned by professionals. A little disappointing that it cannot be ridden out of the box. However, overall a good bike.

Almost perfect

Rides smooth and is pretty comfy with stock componentes. My bike switches gears whenever I go over a bump, so ha in gone gears auto change under you mid ride unexpectedly is a bummer. Have tried to fix it and took it into the shop, still auto-switches.
