The last rays of sunlight were sinking below the horizon in Phoenix. Despite the 103 degree temperatures, locals fixed and road cyclists were meeting in Civic Space Park for the 18th Monday night in a row. It was another edition of Phoenix Loops, a local social ride sponsored by State Bicycle Co. and PHX Bike.

In the bicycle world, giants dominate. The world’s largest, most well-known brands get the lion’s share of bike business, leaving newcomers with a steep climb. But online selling has opened up new inroads for small businesses, and for three young bicycle enthusiasts, adventure beckoned.

Mehdi Farsi, Reza Farsi, and Eric Ferguson didn't send out resumes seeking a corporate job after they graduated from Arizona State University a few years ago. Instead, the longtime friends and avid cyclists turned their hobby into a business, launching State Bicycle Co.
As cyclists and joggers casually go by one evening at Tempe Beach Park, members of the State Bicycle Co. cycling team loaf together near the boat rental stand. Talk hovers around their performance last year at a major race, which they plan to enter again next month. Competing against a field of more than 100 riders last March, they surprised and absolutely beat the ass off the competition.
Taking your hobby and your passion and turning it into a viable business is the holy grail for many entrepreneurs. Brothers Mehdi and Reza Farsi, along with longtime friend Eric Ferguson, have been able to achieve just that.
While I can’t possibly make it out to every cycling-related event, my readers can. That’s why I gladly accepted State Bicycle's offer to report on the Wolfpack Hustle Marathon Crash Race 2 event. Enclosed below is a full race recap of the events, including links to various facets of the race.
