4130 All-Road - Root Beer - SRAM Rival AXS

FULLY WIRELESS STEEL GRAVEL

The 4130 All-Road is built for riders who want to do everything — gravel races, bikepacking missions, commutes, trail days — without buying multiple bikes or compromising on any of them. This build pairs that revamped 4130 Chromoly Steel frame with a fully wireless SRAM AXS drivetrain.

Choose Rival XPLR AXS for 13 speeds and a tighter gear progression, or Eagle Transmission "Mullet" AXS for 520% of range and a bailout gear that will get you up anything. Both come with Rival E1 carbon levers, hydraulic disc brakes, and a hangerless derailleur bolted straight through the frame — no cable to route, no housing to contaminate, no indexing that drifts out over a season of dust and grit.

Then build it your way: 700c or 650b, three fork options, and clearance for up to 700c x 55mm or 650b x 60mm. UDH, dropper-ready, and mounts for three bottles plus racks, fenders, and cargo.

The 4130 All-Road is built for riders who want to do everything — gravel races, bikepacking missions, commutes, trail days — without buying multiple bikes or compromising on any of them. No cables. No housing. No indexing that drifts out over a season of dust and grit.

Platform Highlights

  • Fully Wireless SRAM AXS — Your choice of two drivetrains, both with Rival E1 carbon levers and hydraulic disc brakes. Battery and charger included.
  • Double-Butted 4130 Chromoly Steel Frame — Thicker tube walls at the ends where they're welded and stress concentrates, thinner through the middle where they don't need to be. Strength where it matters, weight shed everywhere else. Tough, repairable, and with a ride quality that carbon can't replicate. Built for the long haul.
  • UDH-Compatible — Required for the hangerless Full Mount derailleurs, and it means no hunting for proprietary hangers anywhere in the world.
  • Dropper Post Ready — Internal routing already in place. Add a dropper whenever you're ready.
  • Semi-Internal Cable Routing — Cleaner than fully external, easier to service than fully internal. With AXS there's far less to route in the first place.
  • Tire Clearance — Plenty of room for real-world rubber in any configuration:
    • Frame & Standard Fork: 700c x 55mm (2.2") or 650b x 60mm (2.4")
    • Frame & Monster Fork (Carbon): 700c x 55mm (2.2") or 650b x 55mm (2.2")
  • Mounts for Everything — 3 water bottle mounts plus rack, fender, and accessory mounts. Pack it up or strip it down.

Why wireless on a gravel bike

Electronic shifting usually gets sold on speed. On a bike that lives in dust, mud, and grit, it's worth having for a duller reason: nothing about it degrades between services.

Cable housing contaminates. Cables stretch. Indexing drifts. The shift you had in March isn't the shift you have in August. A wireless derailleur moves to a position it already knows, every time, regardless of what the bike has been through — and both of these derailleurs bolt through the frame with no hanger to bend and no limit screws to set.

The 700c tire: one of the fastest-rolling 50mm gravel tires you can buy.

The Continental Terra Hardpack TR 50 scored 18.6 watts rolling resistance in independent lab testing at BicycleRollingResistance.com — earning a 4.5/5 "Highly Recommended" rating and putting it among the fastest gravel tires at this width. A flat central tread keeps things quick on pavement and hard-pack, while developed shoulder lugs and Continental's ShieldWall puncture protection handle the rough stuff. PureGrip compound means grip and durability don't get traded off against each other. At 50mm, this tire smooths out terrain that would rattle a narrower setup — without giving up speed.

SRAM engineered the 303 XPLR platform around the gravel tire first — wide, deep, and hookless — instead of just widening a road rim. The result: lower tire pressure without the squirm, more cornering grip, and real aero gains once you're moving at gravel race speed.

— As tested by BikeRadar & Cyclingnews
⚠️ The Zipp 303 XPLR S uses hookless rims: tubeless tires only, 50 psi maximum, and approved tires only. The stock Continental Terra Hardpack TR 50mm falls within the rim's 40–61c range. Check Zipp's current approved hookless tire list before fitting anything else.

FAQ

Rider-owned in Phoenix, AZ since 2009. 5-year frame warranty on steel, aluminum & titanium · most in-stock bikes ship in 1 business day · 4.8/5 from 16,000+ reviews.

How does my bike show up, and do I need a shop?

That depends on how you order it:

  • With Pro-Build (select models: $79.99, or $129.99 on Carbon Road). Our mechanics in Phoenix face the frame, set up and bleed the hydraulic brakes, index the drivetrain, cut the steerer to our stock length and torque-check everything before it goes in the box. That's the shop work that usually runs $150–$300 locally. You bolt on the bars, seatpost, front wheel and pedals, set your hoods and wrap your tape: about 20–30 minutes with a hex set and a torque wrench. Pro-Build adds a 1–2 week build queue.
  • Without Pro-Build. Your bike ships mostly assembled, but it needs a full assembly and tune by a professional mechanic before it's ride-ready. Carbon, titanium and AXS builds that skip Pro-Build arrive unassembled with an uncut steerer, so your shop can build them to your exact fit.

Either way, a professional build is safer, rides better, and unlocks our better warranty tier (see below).

How Pro-Build works · Find a shop near you

What does the warranty cover?

Every State bike comes with our Standard Limited Warranty against manufacturing defects for the original owner. No registration required.

  • Steel, aluminum & titanium frames and forks: 5 years
  • Carbon frames and forks: 1 year (2 years with ProBuild Advantage)
  • Non-consumable parts (cranks, wheels, hubs, bars, stem, seatpost, pedals): 1 year

Not covered: wear items (tires, tubes, chains, brake pads, grips, bar tape, saddles, spokes, paint), rust on RAW finishes, crash damage, and labor or shipping costs. Full warranty details

What is ProBuild Advantage, and how do I get it?

It's our "you did it right" warranty tier for bikes that were professionally assembled and registered within 30 days of delivery. You get everything in the Standard warranty, plus:

  • 2 years on carbon frames and forks, instead of 1
  • Priority claim review: ProBuild claims go to the front of the line
  • Faster help with shifting or braking issues, without the "did you tighten that bolt?" back-and-forth
  • Shipping perks on approved warranty replacement parts
  • Discounted pricing on a replacement frame or bike for up to 5 years from delivery, if a crash wins

To activate it: add Pro-Build when you order, or have a local shop assemble your bike and keep the receipt. Then register your bike within 30 days of delivery with your serial number (engraved under the bottom bracket shell) and proof of assembly. If you ordered Pro-Build, our mechanics already did the build. You just register.

When will my bike ship?

Most in-stock bikes ship within 1 business day, and you'll get tracking as soon as yours is on its way. Adding Pro-Build puts your bike in our build queue for 1–2 weeks before it ships. Shipping is calculated at checkout from your location and the size of your order, and bikes go out by UPS or FedEx Ground.

Outside the U.S.? We ship worldwide, and duties and taxes are paid at checkout, so nothing is due on delivery. Shipping policy

What if it's not right? Returns & exchanges

You have 30 days from delivery to request a return or exchange. Bikes need to be unused, in like-new condition and in their original packaging.

  • Refunds: a return label fee is deducted ($45 for complete bikes), and original shipping isn't refundable.
  • Exchanges: issued as store credit. The return label fee applies here too.
  • Package Protection Plan (add it at checkout): covers loss and damage in transit, removes return label fees and deductions, and extends the window for exchanges and store credit to 60 days. Refunds stay at 30 days.

Pro-Build and other service work can't be refunded once it's done. Final sale, clearance and limited-run items can't be returned, and neither can international orders.

Start a return · Full return policy

Can I pay over time, or use HSA/FSA funds?

Yes. Financing with Bread Pay splits your bike into monthly payments, and you can pay it off early with no penalty (subject to credit approval). You may also be able to use pre-tax HSA/FSA dollars through Truemed. A short intake at checkout checks your eligibility, which depends on your plan. HSA/FSA guide

Which size do I need?

Geometry charts, size guides and full build specs for every model are on our Size Charts & Specs page. Between sizes, or running a tall stack or long stem? Get in touch before you order. Pro-Build cuts the steerer to our stock length, and that can't be undone.

Can I see one in person or get it built locally?

Use our dealer & shop locator to find a shop near you for a look in person, assembly or a tune-up.

State of DOOM

Can a $900 bike complete a bike-packing race?Back at it again in the reviews. After a few tuning rides the Raw 4130 was ready to take on DOOM, 404 miles / 46,000’ of Ozark magic. With the assumption that riding a full rigid was an unspoken right of passage, the rig was set for it’s first (my first as well) ultra bike race. With monster clearance and running 650b/2.35 wheel/tire combo, the State handled the chunk way better than I could. She was fully loaded with an overall weight of probably 60lbs and didn’t falter once. I blew through both my front and rear pads but mechanical hydros proved to be insanely easy to field swap on a picnic table at Kingston Station. A slightly modified shimano (J05?) pad fits perfectly and honestly you should just replace the original pads immediately. I ran them till they died., so they are not terrible. Hunt Mason x Adventure wheels were nice to have and improved my confidence against an untested and slightly heavier State wheel-set but I wouldn’t say it is completely necessary. The State derailleur was operational but touchy due to an underpowered clutch (IMO) and I swapped it with a GX before the race. The indexing wasn’t perfect but it could be managed with the State 12spd shifters. I opted for a smaller chainring but the stock State ring is a keeper and resembles a Wolf Tooth ring.

In summary: Yes you can get a Doom worthy rig for under a grand! I would swap brake pads, seat, and wheels upon arrival if you got them but if you don’t the state wheels work just fine!

I’ve since de-bagged her, opted for a 46t chainring and some hunt aerodynamicists to see how she handles a crit! Post crit review to come.

When purchasing a sub $1K bike these days it does cause a bit of hesitation. I was on the fence between an All-Road and a Specialized Crux and ultimately decided that I truly wanted a steel frame and mechanical everything. I am so glad I did! I was setting the bar low and expecting this thing to feel and perform like a thousand dollar bike and I was completely blown away. The State groupo is nothing to shy away from and I honestly enjoy it just as much as my Sram Force groupo. Once the brakes are bedded in properly these brakes rule. Shifting is so crispy and easy to adjust. The bike overall handles like a dream, so responsive and the geometry resembles my Canyon Ultimate which I was abusing as a gravel bike on 33s. The ample room with the 650bs on this steed is what dreams are made of. Currently running 2.35" Specialized FastTraks and it feels like a speedy monster truck. On it's debut ride I got swept out by a fast stream and almost lost the bike. Completely soaked, finally upright and not a battery in sight, the 4130 didn't care at all and got me home with no issues. Love this bike, excited to see what it can do at Doom in Arkansas later this year!

These huge wheels just looked sick on the 4130 so had to share with the homies. Buy a 4130. Then maybe buy these wheels. 32mm internal width, 2.2 SaintAnne on the front / 50mm Updraft on the rear.

So far, so good!

Great bike and my bike mechanic was impressed when assembling. He was very pleased with the shifters being highly accurate and even said "it's not easy to impress a bike mechanic". Taken on about 20 miles of shakedown rides and it's handling very well. Annoyed that I had to pay a tariff recovery fee but it's due to political buffoonery by a guy whose probably never ridden a bike in his life. Overall pleased. Definitely see the value in the dual wheel package that I didn't buy now, oh well, hindsight 20/20. Rip n dip bottle cages were a delight and everyone loves them. Installed one on my gf's ebike, 2 for 1 deal is perfect.

All road 4130

I wish that i had better things to say after a couple shake down rides. Braking performance is just terrible, gives zero confidence being able to stop the bicycle riding anything technical or with any pitch/speed. The second may be just an "is what it is." With a 700x45 gravel tire there are barely millimeters of clearance between the top of the tire and the fork below the steer tube, any kind of muck will add a drastic amount of rolling resistance. Aside from that it seems to have good build quality, I enjoy how clean the internally routed cables and availability to add a dropper post are. The add on wheel set was also a great value!

Solid Steel Platform with Big Upgrade Potential

This State 4130 All-Road offers excellent value for its price. The geometry and comfort are top notch; a real pleasure for long distance rides on pavement or gravel. While the welds in the frame are a bit rough in some spots, they are acceptable given the affordability. The stock Sensah G12 drivetrain works fine, but upgrading to the SRAM AXS completely transformed the bike. Especially the brakes. I would highly recommend to spec the bike that way from the start. With plenty of room for upgrades and a few thousand trouble-free miles behind me, I’m very happy with my purchase.

Loving my 4130 All-Road Dromedary

I'm loving my 4130 All Road! This is the first new bike I’ve bought in over 27 years. The last was a Nishiki mountain bike purchased in Japan in 1997. It’s been years since I’ve ridden it and wanted to get back into riding again. My cousin, an avid biker recommended going to a gravel. After researching and comparing different bikes, I chose this 4130 All-Road. Mostly stock, I did upgrade the drive train to the 11-50 mullet cassette and opted for the wheel set bundle getting both the 700s and 650s, great decision. Since I live in the valley, I was able to have it assembled and picked it up at the warehouse. Nick S. let me know when it was ready (less than a week). Very accommodating, he worked with my schedule to be available. Great personable guy, Nick went over everything on the bike and how it all worked by demonstrating everything I needed to know. A world of difference from my over 25year old bike. It handles great, shifting is phenomenal. After a few rides and the brakes were broken in, they work great, I couldn’t be happier. Swapping the wheels is a cinch, couldn’t believe how easy compared to what I was used too. After about a half dozen rides, the last on a jeep trail with the 650s I started to have issues upshifting to the largest cogs on some steep hills. Contacted Nick at SBC and he told me to bring it in as soon as I could and he would be ready to check it out. He made some adjustments and then took it for a long test ride. It was working but Nick wasn’t completely satisfied with it, Nick replaced a cable and another part. Deemed it good to go for me. Nick is a great rep and asset for SBC and customer service has been the best.
I definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great riding bike to go to State Bicycle Co.

4130 just keeps getting better.

Man, I never understood the steel is real meme until I got the 4130 all road. I had the older version, absolutely loved it, and now the new one which is even more refined. I love the way the bike rides. Everything is super smooth. I got two wheel sets and I'm gonna say the 4130 with 650b wheels is the most comfortable combo I've ever ridden on gravel.

Observations after maiden voyage

This is the first new complete bike I bought in over 15 years. I would usually buy a new or used frame and build it myself. I wanted a gravel bike (after riding an old 'cross bike for years). Purchased with all the standard components, no upgrades, except the mullet gearing. First ride and it hit on all cylinders. I put my SPD pedals and saddle on for comfort, but everything else worked great. I've never been bike packing, but I'm seriously considering it with this. I live less than 10 miles from a state park, so I may need some more racks before that but, it would be a perfect weekend trip. I am looking forward to many more rides. Thanks
