A do-it-all track frame

Bought this to build up as a do it all commuter and part-time tracklocross rig. The frameset shipped and arrived quickly, and was generally well packed. Once out of the box I noticed some minor blemishes and paint imperfects, but these things happen. That said, this condition nets a 4 star review at best. The bottom bracket shell facing was heavily painted and the chain-stays had some tiny paint pitting imperfections 🤷🏼‍♂️. The BB shell required facing and chasing, so plan for this if you are building this up from a frameset. My BB would absolutely not thread in without it. That said, things otherwise came together nicely, and it does what I'd hoped - capably hold 38mm gravel tires with some room to spare. I swapped out the stock fork (which looks nice and is feather weight) with a carbon adventure fork and think this combination would hold 2.1" tires if I was getting weird, on a 49cm frame, no less. That's another thing, pay attention to the sizes and overall geometry on these things. I usually ride a 51-54cm road frameset, and the 49cm bl v3 measured up to be the best fit for me of the line-up. This 49cm's top-tube is over 2cm longer than my other 50cm track bike, for example.

I'm anxious to put some miles on this thing very soon!

The frame have a little scratch on the head tube not a big deal, the only thing I noticed is don’t have the paint bottle to retouch the paint , besides that the frame was great better than what expected, this is my second v3 and is just fantastic, I have a lot of compliments for it .

So I’m a car guy as well as a bike mechanic. I was already shopping for a single-speed when State came up with this paint job that pays tribute to the many legendary racing cars that wore these colors. Kudos to State for offering the frame-only option; I love the look, but wanted to build it with higher-spec components. At 6’4” (193cm), I was worried that even the 61cm size might be too small. But the longish top tube and leaving the steerer uncut give exactly the fit I need. This bike will serve as a commuter, gravel bike, coffee bike and might even see action on our local velodrome. All are possible because of the generous tire clearance – I’m running 37s, but I’m sure you could go up to 40mm if you wanted. If I end up riding on the track, I’d build a second wheelset for tubulars. As you see it, the bike comes in at about 21 pounds; lighter wheels and tires and pulling off the brakes would probably take it down to about 18. It’s a great-looking frame that offers all kinds of possibilities at a fair price.

First fifty review

I’ve put just around 50 miles on my State BL v3. So far it meets my expectations. Caught the Black Label Black Friday bug and went for it. Bought as frame/fork, which also came with a super easy to install headset. The bike arrived quickly and assembly was a breeze. Bikes graphics and finish are spot on. After initial set up, the first hundred to two hundred miles will be spent dialing in and trimming the fork tube. I’m planning on having two to three different setups for this bike. One for a tracklocross feel, one for an urban cruiser and one for a speedster. A simple chainring, wheelset & bar swap should take care of all 3. With the ability to put 33+ tires on it, the bike is pleanty comfortable over the rough stuff and allows for a long day of riding. I highly recommend pulling the trigger on this very affordable bike. It allows a versatility that I haven’t been able to find elsewhere.

Beautiful frame!

The nice deep purple color caught my eye and was even better in person! It is very good value for the lightweight and quality. I like the wheel clearance also, I can switch to 35C tire for gravel ride.

Good upgrade from the black label v2

Really like the look and color scheme of the new black label v3 with less writing on the frame. But the real upgrade for me is the bigger tire clearance for a more multi purpose bike.

Loving it!!

I got the frame only late last year and built from my beater parts. Upgraded components over the winter. The final piece was the Omnium cranks. This is the final form. Therapy machine!! Thanks Chris!

Great looking frame . Only issue was the head tube required reaming. Other than that, bottom bracket and seat post fit adequately. Will update when build is finished ....

SBC FOREVER

So somebody recently tried to steal my 6061 Black label V2 Wu-Tang clan fixie. That was my moneymaker. I'm saying was because they couldn't steal it, so instead they beat the crap out of it and cracked the frame by the seat tube.
I've been a messenger for just about 30 years and I really enjoy working with SBC's bikes so I looked into a new one. And Seth was an AMAZING help getting me back on the road. I really appreciate this group a ton and I will NEVER go to another company for a bike.
All I got was the frame and I purchased the other parts and put it together myself sad thing about it is that I'm not going to be able to get my warranty because I put it together myself I've been a mechanic as well as a messenger for the 30 years.... Anyhow here it is I used my old parts from the Wu-Tang bike.. except for the bottom bracket I got a new front brake cuz it had to be extended new grip tape a new headset and new clipless pedals as well as a new chain
Thanks Medhi and crew!

State BLACK LABEL V3

This frame came in well packaged, shipped fast and received shorty after. Still building up the with my own touch, but so far the bike looks great. Can’t wait to get it complete. With the frame, I got the State Oil Slick stem, State Oil Slick Handle Bars, And the State Seat post. I got the Sram S300 GXP, but changed out the Crankset Bolts for some Oil Slick ones to match the theme. Still contemplating on which Wheelset I should get, but those State Carbon Wheelset State has is looking like my go to for this build. All in all, I’m very pleased with the Black Label V3 frame/Fork set.
