Reliability 4031 bike

The crank bearing gave out at about 4000 miles, so I guess that is OK. But the derailler that came with the bike started failing on the GAP and C&O trail ride with about 2000 miles on it. The bike shop told me that another supplier had better kit and replaced it with non OEM, 2000 mile now it still works. Also I have 700c and 650B wheel set and am having major spoke issues, they started at about 1000 miles for each wheel set (it sucks to have failure on the trail), my mass is 200 lbs, and I also have packs for the bike. So their is room for improvement with the State 4130, reliability should be the highest priority, if we wanted speed we would buy another manufactures bike.

An Easy Fix

If your bottom bracket bearings are wearing out this is a cheap and easy fix. I used an instructional video from Park Tool and a few tools from a generic specialty bike tools kit worth about $45. The only hiccup was having to use a bolt with a couple nuts locked together on it to connect the little torque wrench to the 10 mm hex tool entry on the preload nut to be sure it got the right torque. A 10 mm hex driver bit is not a standard tool.

BSA DUB bottom bracket

Today I rode 21 miles with plenty of good elevation gain and this being my second ride with the new BB installed it felt like butter!!! The original drive side bearing was shot after approximately 500 miles. I’m wondering if the cause maybe is the fact the spindle is 29mm and the threaded shell is 42 mm leaving very little room for bearings of any size thus wearing out quickly???? I think this DUB setup originates from SRAM?? If the bottom brackets continue to wear out quickly I may change the front drive train to accept non DUB bottom brackets. Overall I am enthralled with the 4130 All Road!!!!!

Great product!

I got a state 4130 all road about this time last year and I have put about 2700 miles on the bike. The bike to begin with has been an amazing purchase based on the limited amount of maintenance I have had to do. Any of the parts I replaced I simply bought directly from state, this bottom bracket being one of them. It was easy to replace and brought back the smooth like new feel to my cranks.
