SRAM Rival XPLR AXS Rear Derailleur — 13-Speed, Max 46T, UDH
Rival AXS puts premium performance within reach.
current price, $360.00
No hanger. No limit screws. No adjustment to knock out.
The Rival XPLR AXS rear derailleur bolts directly through the frame using a Full Mount interface — there's no derailleur hanger between the frame and the derailleur, which removes the single most common cause of bad shifting.
13-speed, 1x, built around the 10-46T XPLR cassette.
What hangerless actually solves
A derailleur hanger is a deliberately soft piece of aluminum designed to bend before your frame does. That's a good idea in a crash and a bad one everywhere else, because a hanger bends a little every time the bike falls over, gets packed in a case, or takes a rock — and a hanger that's a degree out of true makes a perfectly good drivetrain shift badly.
Full Mount deletes it. The derailleur clamps directly around the rear axle, referencing the frame instead of a sacrificial tab. Mud, rock strikes, a bike that shifted in the back of the truck, an airline baggage handler who didn't read the sticker — none of it moves this derailleur out of alignment.
Setup follows from that. There are no limit screws. The derailleur knows where the cassette is because the mounting interface guarantees it. You install it, follow the procedure once, and it's done.
Chain management
An MTB-derived spring clutch holds the cage against chain slap. Gravel is where this matters most — washboard, braking bumps, and rock gardens are exactly the inputs that throw a chain on a 1x drivetrain with a big cassette.
The clutch is strong enough to keep the chain settled and quiet, tuned so it doesn't add drag that fights you climbing the cassette.
Rebuildable
The high-wear parts are replaceable rather than sealed in. Pulley wheels, cage, and hardware are available as individual service parts, so a crash or a season of grit doesn't turn into a new derailleur.
On a component that lives six inches off the ground and takes hits for a living, that's worth more than the grams it costs.
Cassette compatibility — one option only
This is a 13-speed derailleur built for one cassette: the 10-46T XPLR 13-speed.
It will not work with a 12-speed cassette. It will not work with a 10-36 road cassette. There's no adjustment or firmware setting that changes this — the derailleur has 13 positions and indexes to 13-speed cog spacing.
If you're running 12-speed and want to stay there, you want the standard Rival AXS rear derailleur instead, which handles 10-28 through 10-36.
Which crankset to pair — measure your chainstays
SRAM's compatibility rule here is based on chainstay length, because chainstay length determines what chainline your bike needs.
- Chainstays 415mm and longer: use an XPLR crankset with a 47.5mm Wide chainline
- Chainstays 414mm and shorter: use a road crankset with a 45mm chainline
Most dedicated gravel frames sit at 415mm or longer and want the Wide crank. Shorter-chainstay all-road and road frames want the road crank. Your frame manufacturer publishes chainstay length in the geometry chart — check it before you buy a crankset to go with this.
Your frame needs UDH
Full Mount derailleurs attach through a UDH-standard dropout. If your frame uses a conventional replaceable hanger of any other pattern, this derailleur will not fit it.
UDH has become close to universal on new gravel and mountain frames, but it's worth confirming rather than assuming — check your frame's spec sheet or look at whether your current hanger matches the UDH shape.
How eTap shifting works
On a 1x drivetrain the logic is as simple as it gets:
- Right paddle — harder gear
- Left paddle — easier gear
No cable, no housing, no tension to set, no indexing that drifts. The derailleur listens for the lever and moves to a position it already knows.
AXS app
Pair to the SRAM AXS app to check battery level, reassign what each control does, get service reminders, and push firmware updates. Reassigning takes about a minute and means you can set the paddles up however you want them.
Batteries
The AXS battery and charger are sold separately.
It's the same rechargeable battery used across the AXS range, so if you've got a spare from another bike it drops straight in. Carrying one in a jersey pocket on long gravel days is cheap insurance — it swaps in about five seconds with no tools.
Your shift levers are a separate system running CR2032 coin cells that last years, not rides.
You will need a SRAM Flattop chain
SRAM's road and gravel drivetrains use Flattop chains, a different design from standard chains. A Shimano chain will not work. A SRAM Eagle chain will not work. A generic 12 or 13-speed chain will not work.
Compatible: SRAM Road Flattop D1 or Road Flattop E1.
What you'll still need
- A UDH-compatible frame
- A 10-46T XPLR 13-speed cassette — this derailleur works with nothing else
- An XDR driver body on your rear hub, for that cassette
- An AXS battery and charger — not included
- SRAM Road Flattop chain, D1 or E1
- A crankset matched to your chainstay length — see above
- AXS shift-brake levers or controls

Installation
Remove your UDH hanger — the derailleur replaces it entirely and clamps around the axle. Follow SRAM's setup sequence exactly; there are no limit screws to fall back on if you improvise, and the procedure is short precisely because the interface does the work.
Install the battery and press the AXS button to pair. About a minute, no app required.
