Building a dream

Yeas ago I stumbled across a subculture of bicycles called Tall Bikes and I had this dream of having my own tall bike. I did not know how I was going to make this dream a reality but State Bicycle gave me a great foundation and blank canvas to start this project with the 4130 Matte Black. Two same size frames were tig welded together and the head tube extended to create the basic tall bike frame. Everything on the bike is stock, and the chain was extended to accommodate the increased distance from the crankset to the cog. Mounting and dismounting is very easy and the bike is not difficult to ride.

Very Solid!

This bike is just what I was looking for, no gears no disc brakes, able to go off-road, extremely simple yet stylish. The range of tire sizes that can be used on this bike gives it unique versatility.

This bike rips

This is my favorite bike I have ever owned. I have it set up for Tracklocross running no brakes. I swapped from the stock tube set up for tubeless running 700x42 Specialized Sawtooth front and back and flat Doom Bars at 800mm width. This thing runs great stock but I plan to continue to upgrade the components as I go to make it an absolute beast.

Needed to have work done on it

The frame needed to be “faced” by a mechanic before they could install an upgraded headset which is something that shouldn’t need to be done with a brand new bike frame. Overall a little disappointed that needed to be done.

State Bicycle 4130 Review - Matte Olive - Fixed/SS

This is the second 4130 bike I've purchased from State Bicycle. The first (Jamicia) remains in perfect shape after thousands of miles without a single problem. Jamicia has been all over the US with only a few minor dings and scratches to show for its travels. It has been a super solid bike and a blast to ride.
Jamicia has no flaws which would beg the question, why replace it? The answer is the upgraded fork and rear triangle of the new 4130 line. Doing a good amount of riding before sunrise and often on less than smooth roads, I wanted the comfort and confidence of a 38mm tire and even more importantly, I wanted a tubeless wheel setup. After several weeks of riding my new 4130, I could not be happier. It's light, quick, agile and looks amazing. Ride quality with the wider tires is spot on. My average speeds remain unchanged from when I was riding 28mm tires. The only changes from stock were a new set of tubeless tires ( stock tires are not tubeless compatible but the stock rims are...sort of weird but I'm sure State has their reasons) and the original bar switched out for a carbon flatbar.
I'm predominantly an XC mountain bike racer and offroad junkie but when the trails are closed, or I just want to get on the road for a change, the 4130 State Bicycle is my go-to. I love the simplicity and fun of a good solid single speed. Also, being in the cycling world for almost three decades, I find State Bicycles to be one on the best bangs for the buck.

Single Speed Tank

At first I was concerned that I bit off more than I could chew, but it is so fun to ride!! It will help with my cadence and endurance especially since I keep wanting to downshift. I have not been challenged with big hills yet but I will test them out!! As someone told me it has three speeds sit, stand and walk I have yet to hit the third speed!!! Should have gotten a SS a long time ago!!

I really like this bike.

When I purchased, I knew I was going to change almost everything on it, so I have not ridden it stock. I went with fairdale MX6 bars, Sunday grips and stem, shimano xt levers with tektro R559 brakes, velocity wheels with a WTB Resolute 700x42 (50 would fit), WTB Riddler 700x37 rear (42 should fit) and finally the Essor crank. But, I was not able to get the drive side of bb off- was turning the correct way. Fabric scoop radius saddle with a Ritchey seatpost.

We have 16miles of flow trails locally with some long climbs and a lot of short punchy ones. 46x18 gets me up most without a ton of mashing, but I need to get back in shape after a series of mishaps and 18 months off the bike.

Loving it

This is my first bike since I was a teenager (I'm close to 30 now). So I'll admit I don't have a good frame of reference for reviewing this. But riding it has been very smooth and fun, and I've never been this excited about getting out to exercise everyday. Great buy.

True Value

One fine bike at this price point. Love the design and attention to detail. The Matte Black color gives this bike a distinct look. Simple, sleek, street. Love it. Bought the 4130 because in our city we have streets at all levels of repair and disrepair. Plenty of dirt roads. Even single track paths. This bike handles it all. The ride is remarkably secure and smooth. The tires are ok and the handling is nimble for a gravel bike. Very pleased so far and I am running this bike strictly stock off the shelf. Keep up the great work, State Bike!

Solid ride on a great bike

I purchased the 4130 to use while living in the city over the next 1+ years. I have a large truck that isn't the easiest to navigate and park in an urban setting. So, I decided to purchase a bike for daily errands and exercise. Enter the 4130. This bike is fantastic! Much lighter than other bikes I have owned and the single speed is much appreciated and utilitarian for an urban setting. Highly recommend.
