Great pedals!

The pedals themselves are great, well made and fairly easy to put on. I wish they included some grease, but that isn't a huge deal. My only complaint is that the clipless side feels a bit tight for a gravel pedal, even when set as loose as possible. It takes some serious force to seat the cleats into the pedal, more than I would have expected.

Horrible

I purchased a brand new State 6061 with these pedals and I had a horrible experience. I couldn't clip in no matter how hard I tried. I use the same SPD-style shoes and cleats on other pedals for spin and it works no problem. The shoe doesn't appear to be obstructing my ability to get into the clipless side, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Another review mentions a surprising amount of force to get the cleat into the pedal...no matter how much force I used I could not seem to get it in. After adjusting the tension all the way down and trying to increase it incrementally to find the right fit, eventually the screw was stripped just from regular adjustments. Wasted $60 out of an almost-$1500 purchase and I'm out of the exchange window so I guess these are just expensive paperweights now...

Great combo pedals

The flat sides are nice. They are as comfortable as other bmx/street style high density plastic flats. No complaints. The SPD clip in side work well too. I put these pedals on my track (fixie) build and wanted the ability to ride the track AND cruise around the neighborhood on it. I love that I have the option for wearing both types of shoes for one bike.

Nice to have options!

Good upgrade from the stock alloy platforms. Great integration with the State Bicycle components. Continually impressed with the quality for the price!

Great Value

The platform/clipless pedals are great. They provide the flexibility of flat or SPD depending on bike use for the ride. I was worried they might be heavy, but, weigh the same as the Shimano SPD's i replaced them with, 145 grams....at a great price, too.

Versatility in spades

These pedals, which were very hard to find eith the current supply chain issues, have allowed me to make my State both my “round town” bike as well as gravel grinder. Price was unmatched elsewhere.

Just purchased the the E-Bike

I purchased this my first electric bike and I really am enjoying it. This is my third State Bicycle Co. bicycle and again the products from this company do not disappoint. I feel like I get a good product for my money.

My primary purpose for this bike is my commute to work. My route is paved bike path with a little bit of city street with bike lanes. I was looking for an e-bike with a robust frame and components that required low maintenance and ability to add racks for panniers and which still looked like a normal bicycle. My commute is a long one. 36-40 miles round trip depending on the amount of traffic I feel like tackling on my ride.

First the good about this bike:
1) the price. Got it in the Labor Day sale. Difficult to get one this good at the price I paid.
2) robust steel frame is going to take a lot of abuse and keep ticking.
3) you can have any color you want as long as it’s black.
4) no throttle keeps me honest cause you gotta petal to engage the assist.
5) five power levels are plenty. I find power 3 nearly perfect four is good but drains the battery and on the flats has too fast a cadence for my comfort
6) comfortable geometry and sizing
7) ease of charging and battery at my preferred power level.

Now for the parts I’d like to see changed in future models:
1) make the battery easily removable. I’d like to charge this under my desk at work when it’s a bit low. No chance with the surgery required to get at this battery and there’s no charging where I can park it at work.
2) need to offer upgraded saddle at time of purchase (like other bike options). Rode the stock saddle for 60 miles and then added a Brooks and there’s no comparisons.
3) would like front rack attachment screws on the fork (like on the all-road)
4) commuter suspension seat post upgrade option for even more cush-on-the-toosh
5) longer lasting battery not much more

Unknowns I’m waiting to figure out.
1) battery life expectancy. So far I have five charges and 150 miles on the battery. How many charge cycles can I reasonably expect?
2) ease of back tire flat fix when I’m on the commute. Read the manual. In theory ready to ride in the rodeo

Don’t likes:
1) petal resistance at low power (levels 1&2). When you’re cycling while in low power levels there’s significant resistance to going over the power level motor speed. I don’t know if this this is a feature of the assist motor but sure would be nice to override if your pedaling faster anyway (and maybe it would save battery?)

Overall very pleased with this e-bike. Would love to see some of my suggestions in the version2.0 if ever. Big fan of State Bicycle Company bicycles! Keep it up folks!

Double the flavor!

Great to bring it all to the table with these pedals. Also, a heck of an upgrade from the stock for gravel riding. Though, I totally put those stock bad boys on my 1984 Ross Mountain Bike! Besides granting the flexibility of SPD or flat, the State Bicycle branded “Combo Pedal” has worked flawlessly for the first few hundred miles so far. I ride gravel and we know that can give components a beating, but they have held up brilliantly.

The flat side has been great for when I am just jumping on the saddle for a spin with my family or over the weekend camping. Cutouts (teeth) on the flat side keep most shoes stuck on rather well. Especially softer “gum” soles. This also was nice as I could feel the connection with the peddle giving me more confidence in some “fun” flat peddle riding.

My experience on the SPD side is this. Right out of the box I installed my new pedals and tried to clip in. I started out with the settings on the pedals too tight. I was having a terrible time getting clipped in/out. I backed them off to fully open and they worked great and as expected. Since then, I have been slowly tightening the SPD clamp every few hundred miles and that seems to be a perfect transition.

Great pedals and I would buy again.
