Bargain Steel All Road Frameset!

Greetings from NYC. Built up a flat bar super commuter with my Frameset. I’m 5’6 and this is a size small (47cm).
First impression out of the box was I was surprised by lightness of the cromoly fork. All of the eyelets come with steel bolts (I tested them with a magnet)! You don’t want to use aluminum bolts for load bearing functions.
I luv the sparkly BlackBlue finish (I’ll call it Galaxy finish) it’s not too loud but it’s definitely there when the sun hits it. The nice headbadge has a thin plastic film cover don’t forget to take it off.
The only problems I had with my build was i couldn’t press in the headset cups myself with a DIY press. So I had to bring it to a bike shop (Big Up Grand Bicycle Center). You def don’t want to press in cups crookedly! It would have been nice to have the option to have the headset installed when you order. Currently running 27.5 x 1.75 tires which is thick but not too thick. One word to describe the ride feel of this frame - NIIIIIIIIIIICE.
You cannot find a more affordable steel disc Frameset with all the bells n whistles, in the USA at least, than the State All Road.

Budget quality.

I did not want to buy this frameset. I was looking at the Salsa Vaya, the Ritchey Outback, among others. But they were all out of stock or had something that rubbed me the wrong way. The State was in stock, ready to ship, had solid geo and was half the price of the other brands. I accepted that it wasn't name brand tubing and told myself to stop being a steel snob and ordered it. It arrived promptly and assembled easily. Cups pressed in with ease, BB threaded in the same. The bolt was missing from the seatclamp, but State sent me a new one no questions asked with speed. I built it up with SRAM Rival 11 speed, TRP Spyre brakes, and Easton AX cockpit and it's been great. I had a moment of panic about halfway through amassing parts when I thought I had no need for a gravel bike, telling myself to just tough it out on my CX bike or ride my hardtail, but after 10 minutes of riding it I concluded that it really is the best of both worlds. The geo is a solid mix of fast enough handling to dodge problems and stable enough to compensate when you can't. I've not had a chance to ride it loaded yet, but plan on doing so next week. This no name 4130 frame is right at home among my Tange, Reynolds, and Columbus framed bikes. Is it as light? Probably not, but that really isn't the point. TLDR: Rides great, excellent value.

Building from just a frame.

The frame is a steal at the price, as is the the fully built model. I ordered just the frame, it shipped super quick, paint arrived damaged in several spots. I wasn’t concerned because I’m tough on paint anyway. My plan was to swap parts from my 2016 Raleigh Willard 2 to this frame.. So far it hasn’t worked out well, but that’s partially my fault for not doing more research. The 12x100 fork spacing has been a hurdle in finding a wheel set. The rear flat mount brake is not compatible with post mount adapters due to tight rear triangles. Sourcing a flat mount caliper for the rear is holding up my build. The frame is very well constructed and should be trouble free for years to come. The paint is beautiful, even damaged. It came with a headset, which was a nice touch. Things I would change are, make front for 15x100 spacing and rear post mount brake compatibility. I would recommend better QC on paint and packaging.

Black Canyon All-Road Frameset - Beautiful!

I am still waiting on some components to finish my build, but I am really impressed with the frame and fork. The finish is beautiful, the geometry is perfect, the build quality looks good, and there are mounts and eyelets all over. I also appreciate that it seems future-proof - 142/100x12 thru axles, flat mount brakes, and tried and true 4130 tubing all contribute to a modern steel rig. You built quite a frame at this price point!

Well made frame.

Not fully assembled yet, but the frame’s welding quality and painting job is awesome.
Shipped fast, safe.
Their customer service is also very impressing.
Can’t wait to finish my build!

p.s. Hope there would be some stickers-kind of goods within’.

Not saying this is the best bike I’ve ever bought but

Was in the market for a gravel bike & stumbled upon the 4130 with SRAM XPLR. I don’t think there has been a ride that hasn’t brought a smile to my face.

This frame is absolutely bombproof & the price point is out of this world.

Only thing I wish they would add is mounting points to the top tube or down tube. But that’s small potatoes.
