I love the bike. It's snappy. The gear ratio works out well for my commute and works surprisingly well up some decent climbs. I have yet to have to walk it. The bike was packaged nicely with no dings or scratches when it arrived. The only 2 minor complaints that I have are 1) I opted for drop bars and the brake levers supplied do not fit on the bars in a safe/usable position (clamp too small). I had to order a lever with a 31.8 mm clamp to get it further inboard towards the stem. 2) I was told that the bike will accomodate up to 32c tires so I mounted some nice all-weather 28c tires but the rear did not clear the rear brake mount with the supplied chain. An easy $15 dollar fix for a new chain. Those are minor complaints in my opinion but overall the bike is wonderful. I have received many compliments and I absolutely love riding it. Matter of fact, I already put my geared bikes away for the winter. Thanks State!
Had a v1 Black Label taken out by a car crash and replaced it with this bike from insurance money. I have the Omnium Crank, FSA Compact Drop Bar, Brooks Cambium All-Weather Saddle, and Thickslick 25c's as upgrades, and also added some basic Tektro Drop Brake Levers and All-City Cable Housing Guides. For starters, love this bike absolutely. Its the favorite of my 4 bicycles, and my go-to commuter for work. You can actually feel the 1-1/2lbs weight difference from the v1, and the newer stock Arione style saddle is far better than the old standard. The geometry feels a little more relaxed, but every nuance of body movement is still translated through the bike making it more comfortable and still responsive. Using the 48/16 gear ratio is perfect for my commute, letting me keep a comfy 20mph flat speed but still able to climb steep hills without getting out of the saddle. I used the supplied Wide-Bar for my old v1, and the brakes/grips/bar all feel solid. Only things I would improve from stock are having drop brake lever upgrade options, more sizes of FSA drop bar (I went aftermarket with a 44cm), have the older black cable guides come as standard or at least offer them as a purchase option or the Jagwire Adhesive Clip mounts, and make the Thickslicks the standard tire. I rode for a long time on my v1 with the standard 23c's, and the Thickslicks make a massive difference. Overall, extremely satisfied and looking forward to thousands of miles on this beauty.
Love this thing! Been putting some hard riding miles on it as well as soft pedaling to the bar. Can’t wait to get in on a velodrome!
I recently retired from mountain biking and was looking for a bike that was more suitable for riding in the streets of Toronto. My State Black Label has not disappointed. It's super responsive, fast, nimble and an absolute joy to ride. It's made my Rocky Mountain feel like a tank. And the Pigeon Gray paint job with orange decals looks absolutely sick. My delivery was missing the Vans handlebar grips but the good people at State were quick to send me a set straight away. I'd definitely recommend this bike to anyone looking for a great fixed gear bike that not only performs well, but looks better than the competition by a mile.
Second black label from State. Love it!
I received my order very fast and set up was quick and easy. This bike rides like a dream and looks even better!
The bike perfroms great. I did have a problem with how my bike arrived. Within the box i was missing several items. There was no paperwork whatsoever, no owners manual, warranty card, not even an invoice. Was missing the crimp caps for the brake lines and clips to secure across frame. The tires were barely beaded to the rim and a solid size chip on the fork. With that being said, I really enjoy the v2 bike and am happy with the result.
My first fixie, works perfectly so far. Really lightweight and fun to ride in the city.
I live in Montreal, it arrived in about a week, assembly took a day in my local bike shop
Kinda dissapointed that bullhorn handles weren't an option tho but I can live with that
10/10 would buy again.
I honestly wanted a Specialized Langster again, but that line is done and everywhere is sold out, so State seemed like a good option...younger company, but more bang for the buck. I was looking more for a SS road bike than a fixie.
I got the Black Label v.2 with the wheelset upgraded to the Essor Bolt. Not everything on the bike is perfect, but it's perfect for the money. Seems like State kept the consumables/optional parts cheap, knowing it saves money and people will most likely swap them out anyways. But the bike is fine out of the box. Having said that, the frameset, cockpit, drivetrain and wheels are great! I love the bike...just wish it had two sets of bottle cage bosses and 2 more links in the chain to accommodate an 18 tooth cog (I ride a lot of hills).
And customer service is great, too.
