Nice bike, front wheel off center

The bike appears to be built well and I am happy with the finish. One concern is the front wheel-it doesn’t sit even with the fork when installed. It spins freely (both wheels require trueing however). I’ve tried two other wheel sets that I have and neither of them sit centered within the fork which leads me to believe the dropouts of the fork are bend. Could you please get back to me on this?

I waited too long to buy this bike!

I’ve been logging a lot of miles on a road bike and mountain bike for the last decade. I learned to accept the hand and butt discomfort as part of the deal for the sport.

HOWEVER, I’ve had the 4130 All Road for two days and have already put in 50 miles of road and gravel. I could kick myself for putting up with those discomfort issues for that long.

With the 650b’s installed, the bumps are less jolting than on my front and rear suspension MB. The gears shift more smoothly than my other bikes. The steel frame is way lighter than my MB. This bike handled super well on and off road. And it looks totally badass!

Though my other bikes will likely need therapy, they are banished to the back of the garage. This is my new go-to bike. I plan to swap out the wheels with the 700c gravel ones (I ordered both) and see what this bike can do on longer distances.

I feel stupid for putting off ordering the 4130 for so long. The price is amazing and the bike is amazing-er.

Some recommended upgrades

Normally I mountain bike, but bought this to commute to work in Salt Lake City. Seemed like a phenomenal value! But I had some problems. The clutch on the derailer is real weak and so is the chain. The gear ratios match up with sram, and after the derailer and chain both broke within a couple weeks I upgraded to a sram rival derailer and a sram pc-1170 chain. If you're considering this bike I would highly recommend those upgrades and take that into consideration for the over all cost of the bike when comparing.

Great bike for the money, but shipping needs work.

I have ridden the bike a couple of times now and really like it. The reason I purchased this particular, what people are calling budget gravel bikes, brand and model is because of the upgrade capabilities. With modern spacing, a SRAM compatible State drivetrain, 12mm thru axles front and rear this bike can easily be upgraded part by part to current higher end wheels and parts. It rides great as it is and so far I have had zero issues with the bike during 2 longer rides in it in mixed winter riding.

The issue, the way the bike is packed and the flimsy boxes being used means the bike got damaged during shipping. The derailleur hanger was bend and the finish on part of the derailleur was rubbed off. The box was super beat up. Most bikes I get in boxes are much better packed and in stronger boxes. Somewhere they can improve for sure. State did send me a new hanger and derailleur immediately without question, so customer service is excellent!

For only $899 this bike is really impressive and I would rank it up there with bikes in the $1300 or so range. Keep in mind, direct to consumer does save you some money, but you need to either assemble the bike on your own if you are qualified or pay to have it assembled by a bicycle shop.

Great bike for the money

I bought this as a commuter and bike packing bike. I wanted something that could take a beating, get wet occasionally, and not be horrifically expensive to replace if stolen (a big problem where I am). The bike is built like a tank and has plenty of options for cargo and accessories. Some things to consider: The brakes and derailleur are pretty crappy. It stops just fine, but the mashing down on the brakes is squeaky and feels cheap. The stock chainring 42t chainring is too big for a bike like this. I would recommend something smaller. I bought a 3rd-party 34t narrow-wide and have been much happier when carrying a big load of groceries. The stock saddle is cheap, but you were probably going to replace that anyhow. The paint job looks good but the quality is iffy.

All that said, this is a tremendous value. If you drop another $200 on a few little upgrades, you're still far below the sticker price of comparable bikes from more reputable brands (no offense, State). Unless you can very clearly articulate why you need a better bike than this, you probably don't. Get one.

Excellent value

Sick whip, ready to rock the g-gnar, gravy-gravel, or local bike path. Smooth shifting, excellent stopping, with decent upright/forward geometry - lux copper brown paint job makes it look much more expensive than it was. An abundance of bolts for any cages, panniers, or camping accoutrement

Excellent Bike for the money

Excellent bike for the money. Looks great and rides even better. Groupset is surprisingly nice. I can't speak to the brakes because I removed them immediately in favor of Juin Tech hydro calipers. I DO NOT think their sizing is correct however. I'm 5'11" on a good day, based on their sizing that put my solidly in the middle of "medium". A medium fits me like a compact road frame, it's very small. While there are a lot of factors for fit, if you are taller than 5'11" I would absolutely suggest a large. You will very very likely have toe-overlap on a medium as I do.

State Bicycle All Road 4130

This is a very well built bicycle. I was on a budget and chose this bike due to it's tough steel frame and through axles. The 1×11 modern gearing is really nice and shifts really smooth. All components are State branded but modeled after other high end components. Disc braking works good and the bike feels easy to control and maneuver. I ordered the 650b wheel set, which is perfect for the dirt and rock trails I ride. The Vittoria Barzos tires are very durable and comfortable. I ride a mix of rocky technical, single track, gravel and open trails. This bike can handle it all. The bike geometry allows for a more upright comfortable ride, while feeling very stable in loose terrain and having the ability to become more aerodynamic with the drop down handle bars. I would have State Bike consider improving the gearing by using a smaller front chainring. This bike weighs 28 pounds and begs to be loaded down with gear for bikepacking adventures. Overall, this is an awesome bike! Especially for the price. My State Bike All Road 4130 will be my ride to tackle New Mexicos Monumental Loop in 2022. Happy Trails!

This fork is specifically designed for self-supported tours and races where carrying more water and gear is a necessity. The Monster Fork has the same disc brake flat-mounts and thru axle dropouts to interchange wheels. The fork also features “3-pack” mounts on each blade for racks, water bottles, and accessory cages. The Monster Fork also has fender mounts and a crown mount for racks or dynamo lights.
