Luckily, that did not happen. This is a beautiful bike. The frame is v. nice. The brazings/welds are almost invisible, not those big clumpy globs you see on some lousy frames. So nice I didn't mind paying extra for the Simpsons name.
Coupla things: State doesn't seem to say on its site the number of gear and cog teeth. Unless I miscounted, and I certainly could have, this came 48/16. Which is fine, but when the cog wears out I'll probably add a tooth or two for the steep hills in this area.
When shipped, it came with tight zip ties around the tires that deformed them. I gave them a day hoping they'd spring back out, but the rear tire came off the rim on the first ride at the point of deformation (even though it was seated prior to the ride). No one was injured, rode it home with reduced pressure, and I've replaced the tires with 25s, which are better than 23s anyway, imho.
The first one shipped came with a bent frame, and State was great about shipping me another one, and the return process was easy. Having a good return process makes getting a bike from State a no brainer. Many thanks to the rep who worked with me (Carter).
Bought this bike when it came out, unfortunately for me I didn’t lock it up properly so it did get stolen. During the time I had it, I got adjusted to riding a fixed gear, and learned to love it and the feeling of riding again. Living in nyc you need a durable bike. And this bike was durable, fairly lightweight. And over all just really fun to ride. Ended up removing the breaks and learning to stop brakeless using odyssey platform pedals and hold fast straps.
Bike is all and more than expected.
"I used to think bikes were just used to get from point A to point B, and on the weekends point C. That was until i found the Simpsons X State Bike." Totally lightweight but sturdy, beautiful design, super quick delivery, affordable and making the peeps turn their heads in the "D".Thanks STATE I'll definitely grab up another build from you in the future.
The frame itself is the real deal. Beautiful bike. I can't overstate how much I love the bike.....after putting on a not even decent set of wheels. Luckily I work at a bike shop and had some laying around but the deepish wheels the front wheel started clicking after maybe 60 or so miles and on further investigation, where the rim is joined is beginning to fail. I weigh 140lb with all my gear on MAX and I ride bike paths. This is unacceptable. Besides that, 700x23 tires is awfully narrow. Again, had some replacements sitting around and put them on almost immediately but that's a lesser concern. My brand new bike has rims that are about to fail and that is not okay. Couldn't be happier with the frame though.
The bicycle that came was even better than expected! Out of box, the bicycle looked so clean and the simpsons wrap makes the bicycle pop out so well on the city streets. The gear, wheel and handle bar set all are high quality and everything runs so smooth!
I haven't had a bike in so long and receiving this bike as a gift gave me true joy. Love the design and it rides so smooth. Went with the free wheel configuration so I can cruise. Would buy a bike from State again and highly recommend!
I love my new bike. The color and characters all over the bike are great. Thanks to Derek at King’s Bicycle Store in Long Beach, this bike is one of the smoothest rides I’ve had in a long time. However, because I haven’t been on a bike until I got this one, it’s been a little rough getting used to the saddle. It’s okay though, the bruising will go away. Otherwise, I’d love to get another State Bicycle. Thanks!
